Joy: From the Ground Up

Something So Little January 2, 2014

It finally happened. The moment I’ve been waiting for almost ten months. Well, today I realized it was more than that. It was one of those once in a lifetime kind of moments.

Today I met my little person. Carter Joseph Schmidt. I didn’t think it was possible to love something so little so much.

Ooooh! So exciting to get a new family member! I can feel the excitement through the video! I absolutely love this. I’m very happy for you!

  2. It brought tears to our mummy’s eyes.

    • Happy tears, I hope. πŸ˜‰ Same here – and I thought those hormone things were supposed to calm down after the baby came, but she’s been crying more tears of joy now than before! πŸ™‚

I loved it. Wiley was just so awesome! I remember when we brought Linus home as a puppy and my sons were 3 and 7! It was the reverse. We were teaching our sons to be gentle with a puppy! Where did the 14 years go? Linus is my old boy now and there us more love than I could describe. Thx for sharing Alesia and Linus

    • Dear Beth,
It was indeed a moment of truth. Apparently my parents thought of this as some sort of test…I’m fighting the urge to not take this personally since (obviously) I am doing just fine. He smells so good. πŸ™‚
      Lots of love,
      Wiles

Wiley how beautifully gentle you are with Carter, even though you were excited too, I could see your love for your little brother already. Yay, to an extended Schmidt household! Enjoy the family and continue to do what you do best – give love and joy,

    • Hello dear friend. Yeah, I had all kinds of emotions running through my heart in those moments. If you listen really closely you can hear my tail wagging – it was going a mile a minute. I will definitely take your words to heart, dear one.
      Lots of love,
      Wiles

Wyles, all that practice paid off! The love for every member of your family really comes thru. I could hear your tail wagging in the background! This must be so exciting – I wonder what Carter makes of it all… Your Dad calls you Wyles, too! πŸ™‚ Give your Dad and Mom and yourself a big snuggling, snuffling hug from us. HuntMode Family

    • I guess “they” say practice makes perfect. I’m not a believer in that – nobody’s perfect – but I do think it at least helps when you have an end goal in mind. For my mom the day she went into labor, the end goal was to meet Carter. What a beautiful way to keep perspective in what we do. I was sure to give mom and dad all kinds of snuggles from the HuntMode family.
Lots of love (and the same to you!),
      Wiles

Wiley – what a lovely greeting you gave Carter. I’m so proud of you plus I’m so glad that you didn’t get too excited and bark at him! I think I even saw Carter wave at you?? Thank you so much for sharing.

    • Hi Sandy,
Oh goodness no – I am not a barker, unless there are animals on television. Then I must protect my house from them (obviously). Instead of barking, I simply wanted to give him some kisses and make sure he knows he is loved. I think you’re right about the wave – that beautiful little hand…well, it warms my heart to think about.
      Lots of love,
      Wiles

  8. Wiley, you did GREAT! I like how you got right in there and tasted him and sniffed him. Is he as delicious as we thought he’d be?? He’s a beauty – and the luckiest little brother ever!

    Love and licks,
    Cupcake

    • Dear Cupcake,
Great news! He is even more delicious than I thought he’d be! I try not to give him too many kisses though, since his little baby skin is so sensitive. I’ve got to suffer for the greater good on this one. πŸ˜‰
      Lots of love,
      Wiles

This is awesome “big” brother! You did it so well, Carter will always remember you. Congratulations to your mum and dad . Licks and kisses to you all

  18. This just made me cry! What a GOOD BOY Wiley is!!!! Soooo adorable!!!! ❀

  19. writetowag Says:

Oh my goodness…seeing you place your head as close as you could to his nose and all the kisses…you are such a sweet sweet boy…and hearing your tail wag against the baby blanket…oh the joy!!!! You are so in love…your family is so blessed!!!! Mwah!!!!

    • I had hoped people could hear my tail wagging in the background of the video. It was going a mile a minute, and it says even more than the rest of the video. A dog’s tail never lies, as you know. πŸ˜‰ Thank you for all of your kind words, and for all the encouragement – you were right – this is such a fabulous journey for a doggie to take!
