I’m glad I am a boy. And a dog. I’ve got it easy when it comes to so many things. I don’t have to worry about money, or a food source, or whether or not I’m loved. My people take care of all of that. And the whole appearance thing is so easy for me. The inside matches the outside. I’m all heart, and I work with what I’ve got. And I like it. It’s as simple as that.
That couldn’t be farther from the way it works for the two-legged women in my life. The ones I see on the television are always altering the way they look with hair products and makeup and clothes and diet plans. So many diet plans and fitness commercials air this time of year, no doubt targeting those who made New Year’s resolutions to lose weight. The ones I see in real life aren’t all that different from those on the television, who (for some reason I still don’t understand) they seem to try desperately hard to imitate.
But it gets worse. I apologize in advance for the blanket statement, but the way I see it too many women want what they can’t have. Skinny women want to be skinnier. Curly-haired women want straight hair. Small chested women want a bigger chest (and vice versa). It’s madness.
I got to thinking of this today when I noticed a new kind of joy in my life. Just one you (JOY) appears frequently on labels baby Carter’s clothes. At first I thought nothing of it, but today it got me to thinking. Indeed there is only one baby Carter. And I am thankful for that. He is uniquely him and that is just as it should be.
The same can be said for the women in my life. There is just one of you, and instead of changing it with all kinds of hair products and diet plans, you should be embraced. I’m glad I’m a boy. And a dog. Because I can spend all that time I’m not worrying about unnecessary self improvement on reminding the women in my life how special they are. Joy. From the ground up, it is found on the inside not the outside.
And there is only just one of you, Wiley. When God created dogs, He had you in mind for the best example of loyalty and love. You are precious to your family and to all of us who delight in reading your blog xx
Again you make my day, dear Lyn. Thank you.
Only one of you and that is right you are unique. I agree with your statment, and I would even extend that to men, humans really have many desires and it is always what they don’t have. AS they say the grass is always greener on the other side. If you do look properly on your side you do find beauty. We compare too much. I have been working on this as I always wanted curly hair and bigger boobs 🙂 Well I have learnt to accept myself as I am as God made me. I am happy as I am and ( I also think that comes with age) if someone does not love me because of anything outside, then the person is too shallow anyway. Beauty comes from wihtin and what it in our heart is the most important. Helen Keller and the Little Prince keep telling us, and they are so right. Wiley your inside is so beautiful and full of joy, (you are also a handsome dog) and a big heart. Celebrate yourself, and enjoy a great day! Much Love!
There is so much to cherish in your words, dear friend! I’m so glad to hear you’ve found peace in your beauty. You too are blessed with a pure heart with all kinds of joy to share with me and the world. Thank you for being such a pal.
Lots of love,
Wiles
A heart of gold…
I like how the initials of Just One You spell JOY. We should all feel joy in that thought. Mom always does hair fixing, outfit choosing, and make up before we go for a walk. I just check out the window to make sure it’s safe and I’m good-to-go.
Love and licks,
Cupcake
I’m with you, Cupcake. A quick check for safety and all is well. If only our people would learn this lesson from us….
Lots of love,
W
I’m glad too that I’m a boy. I always say, TV is not the reality, they only show the shell and not the pearl what could be inside :o)
Oh wow. Brother, you are so wise. Thank you for sharing this gem of an idea with me. 😉
You are very wise. My only new years resolution this year was to look into the mirror and say something positive about myself rather than always focusing on the negative!!
Oh, I like this! Good on you! Best ~ HuntMode
This is brilliant! That is the best resolution! Now how can I get mom to do this? 😉
Lots of love,
Wiles
It’s hard but worth it! (although some days I do forget!) and what usually happens is I say to myself “look at my skin, and my hair needs sorting but hey I quite like my eyes, although I really need to do something about my eyebrows and O M G Is that a tash!!”
You’re on the right track, dear friend. At least when you’re talking to yourself there are a couple of good things amidst the other things. It would be nice if it was all good, but a little bit is better than nothing. Take good care of yourself!
Lots of love,
Wiles
So very true Wiles!!!! Please tell your momma she is beautiful!!!! Here’s to all the real women and real friends!!!! Love you sweet boy!!!!
Oh goodness…you make my dear momma blush. Here is to all real women and real friends indeed! Lots of love to you!
Wiles
AWoof my friend I agree! Why do the female humans have to decorate themselves like that!? My mum is a plain Jane and not very thin but I think she is a much better “old girl” than lots of these skinny, painted ones!
Skinny painted ones!? You’re so funny, dear friend. I love your mum just the way she is – you can tell her I say so. 🙂
Lots of love to you both!
Wiles
🙂
You make a very good point Wiley – and it is very helpful that you remind us of what is important. I really appreciate how Toby (the cat) and Mr. Bean (the rabbit) couldn’t care less about how I look. They are just happy when we hang out together. That brings joy to us – wishing you and your family much joy always!
That’s a good reminder too – that Toby and Mr. Bean know their stuff. The same goes for me – I don’t care what my people are wearing, just so that we are all together and well.
Hoping that is exactly what is happening and your home tonight, dear Sandy!
Lots of love,
Wiles
Oh, Wyles, also be thankful you needn’t worry bras or high heels…. Love HuntMode
Oh goodness yes! Those high heeled things look good for nothing. Except maybe for chewing…but that gets me in all kinds of trouble so maybe not. 😉
Lots of love,
Wyles
chewing high heels – costly toys, Wyles… Refrain if you wish to go on living… laughter.
Or so they say. To me they just smell like my mom, so they’re so very tasty. But don’t worry – I steer clear. I know better. 😉
