We don’t have a choice. Even if we did, I’m not sure any of us would change it. There is something us canines are really gifted at. One, because we can’t talk. But more importantly (if you ask me), because we care. We are great listeners. It’s part of our charm.
You see, I think a lot of people make the mistake of thinking it takes at least two people to have a conversation. That’s not always the case. Mom talks to herself all the time. Sometimes she talks to me. And lately she’s been talking to baby Carter.
He doesn’t talk back, but he doesn’t have to. He listens. He might not understand a thing she’s saying, but he doesn’t have to. He listens. And I stand by doing what dogs do best. Listening.
I realized today there is a lesson to be learned from this. “Wisdom is the reward you get for a lifetime of listening when you’d have preferred to talk,” suggested newspaper columnist Doug Larson. Sometimes I do wish I could talk. And these are the moments its probably best I listen.
Even if I had a choice, I don’t think I would change that.
I agree, I show my mum with my ears, tail and eyes that I understand and know how she feels. I makes her feel better when she speaks out and I only have to be there to listen! We dogs know about listening. LOL paws up to you!
Paws up to you for doing such a swell job with showing your love!

Dogs understand why they (and we) have two ears and only one mouth. We should use them in that proportion. Your blog isn’t called Wiley’s Wisdom for nothing my friend ๐
Awww….such kind words from my dear friend Lyn. Thank you!
Listening is a skill for us humans, and not everybody is good at it. I talk to myself too, I thought it is age but hey it might not be… ๐ I read somewhere:” I talk to my self because sometimes I need expert advice.” I like that. ๐
Leave it to you to come up with something so wise, dear one. I love that bit about needing expert advice. You’re such a jokester. ๐ Lots of love to you, Wiles

That’s why we have ONE mouth and TWO ears. Listening is important. Well done, W.
Love and licks,
Cupcake
Again your wisdom reminds me how blessed I am to call you a pal, dear Cupcake. Well said and high paw!
Lots of love,
Wiles
Cupcake said it the best – I agree :o) (although my ears are mostly out of order)
Your ears are only as good as your heart, which I would say is solid gold, dear brother. ๐
good words of wisdom
Thank you friend.
Depends on the topic, Wyles… Grin. Most times, people just want to be heard. When you talk out loud to yourself, at least there is no miscommunication, eh?
I suppose you’re right. I didn’t think of that until you pointed it out. I’m all for being supportive in time of need. ๐
Love it
Thank you!

A lot can be said for listening. For the first time in a very long time he and I sat down together and discussed the problems, had we done it soon. properly talked and more importantly listened and understood, we may have been able to save us!!
This is such a bittersweet thing then, friend. I’m so happy to hear things got straightened out, though it does seem things are still broken beyond repair. Please know my heart and thoughts are still with you!
Lots of love,
Wiles
thank you!
