I stand for a lot of things. The least of which is a dog’s right to the occasional piece of bacon. But I also make a point to stand for the big things too. Like freedom. Love. Life. The pursuit of happiness. I live these things in my daily life. They are part of who I am.
So you can imagine how it was today to see baby Carter stand for something. He stood for himself today. At the tender age of (almost) four months old, my dear little person actually resembled a little person today. He stood on his own two legs all by himself. Kind of. He had a little support from the ottoman behind him. But it was still such a remarkable developmental milestone to witness.
It reminded me that he is going to stand a lot in his life. It’s easy to forget this since he still spends the majority of his time in someone’s loving arms. He’s not mobile (yet). He still sleeps more than he’s awake. (Not that I can talk in that regard). But soon enough my little person will indeed be standing on his own, both literally and figuratively speaking.
He’s going to have thoughts and opinions about things. He’s going to learn right from wrong. He’s going to learn about powerful emotions. He’s going to live. It’s all so surreal to think about right now, yet I found myself wondering today what he will stand for in his life.
I hope he takes a page from my book about the bacon. If he doesn’t (apparently it’s not the best thing for people’s health), that’s okay as long as he learns to stand for the big things instead. Like freedom. Love. Life. The pursuit of happiness. And Joy. From the ground up, this is my wish today. Because as I watched dear Carter stand up today, the words of American motivational speaker Earl Nightengale came to mind.
“You are, at this moment, standing right in the middle of your own acres of diamonds,” he said. That is all I can hope for today and always.
lovely – as usual
Wow fantastic. I am sure in your loving family , wihtyou around Carter will learn the best feelings and hte right things about love , peace, happiness and joy!
That is so cool! And that Mom got it on video too! Yes, Carter is standing – but he will need you Wiley and the rest of his family and friends for support. It is going to be great!
That baby is standing before most babies are even sitting up. What a powerhouse! He’s a keeper, Wiles! I’m sure there are acres and acres of diamonds and joy ahead of him.
Love and licks,
Four months and he’s standing! Not just standing, but rock-solid-standing. I’m in awe of your little person, Wiles, in awe 😀
Aw, Carter is so adorable and I can’t believe it has been four months already. He is for sure a quick learner! Just wait until he starts running around the house – look out! 🙂
So good to hear from you. I hope all is well. Time sure does fly – especially when you’re having fun! 🙂
Lots of love,
Time does fly when you’re having fun! How come it does not fly when you are NOT? LOL We are in seventh heaven over here as we are getting ready for gardening season, and you know how much we LOVE to do that!
I do know how much you love gardening season. Mom always talks a big game and doesn’t deliver, so dad is hesitant to help her along a potentially worthless endeavor. But I will do what I can to encourage such things, as it is in my blood to root for the underdog. Woofs and love and hugs to you all!
Rooting for the underdog is always fun! Tell you Mommy that sometimes you just have to DO IT! I have learned long ago, that no matter how busy YOU are, if you want to do something bad enough – – that you WILL make time to do it. (you can apply this to anything, like if you feel like you don’t have time to read a book, then MAKE the time!) It can be done! Huggies to all of you in Wiley Land!
